Resting Metabolic Rate Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) equates to the amount of energy necessary to sustain our body’s physiological function at rest including muscle tone, body temperature, respiration, circulation etc. The RMR test requires an athlete to remain relaxed and maintain constant mouth breathing for approximately 20 minutes while measurements of gas concentrations (carbon dioxide and oxygen) are collected. Measurements of gas exchange provides important information needed to estimate normal “resting” caloric expenditure. Athletes leave Synergy Athletic Solutions Performance Lab with an accurate and objective idea of how many calories they need each day during periods of intense training or competition which can be extremely helpful in their effort to maintain optimal body composition and future performance.
